Details:   Shot dead by the IRA as he arrived at work in a local factory. One gunman opened fire at close range and then fled with another man in a hijacked car. The pair had taken over a house near the joinery works the previous night and before the shooting had tied up the householder and taken his car. The IRA claimed that one of its units had been involved in a 'brave action in Kilkeel'. Alan was the fifth person on his father's side to be killed by terrorists and the third employee from the firm he worked for. 170th UDR soldier to be killed. |
