Details: He was shot by the IRA as he waited with a colleague in a Landrover for a third man to travel to work together. The gunmen who were waiting behind bushes opened fire from close range killing Daniel and Kenneth Smyth, a serving Sergeant. Daniel had resigned after receiving threats. Left the Regiment in 1971 - 1st ex UDR soldier to be killed. |
