Details: Shot by the IRA as he drove to the engineering firm where he worked. He died one and half hours later in hospital. The gunmen had taken over a house holding a couple and their three children hostage before taking the family's car and driving to the ambush point. Private McNicol was hit in the head and the chest but managed to return 8 rounds, 21 rounds were fired at him. 177th UDR soldier to be killed. |
